Today I went with Ethan to his school orientation, or as they call it here "New parent coffee". It made me really excited to be in such a great new school. I think it is this year that they will be celebrating the 100th year at Brayton. Isn't that crazy? It also made me a tad emotional. I know he will be fine but it's a little harder this year knowing that he has to do everything new, not just a new teacher but city, school, friends, etc. The good news and it's actually pretty amazing to me is there is another family that moved here from Utah 2 months ago. They are in our ward and randomly they have a little boy Ethan's age and today we found out they will be in the same class. The boy's were sooo excited. There are 4 classes of each grade and in the 2nd grade there are two male teachers. I kind of wanted him to have a male teacher just because that is such a novelty and it might be a nice change but oh well. We did meet one of the male 2nd grade teachers and he looked like so much fun. He had kind of long crazy gelled hair. I mentioned to the woman giving the tour that he looked like he belonged on American idol and she said "he was". I guess he didn't get very far because he's obviously still teaching. Pretty funny though.
I remember when we were in Belgium and were the only "Mormons". My parents prayed really hard for even just one other "Mormon" family. Sure enough the O'Bryants moved in from California and we of course all became close friends. I can't help but think there have been many tender mercies in reassuring us we are supposed to be here and will be well taken care of. Even on the little things and our Ethan having a buddy in his class at school.
Tomorrow I go to Anna's school to meet her teacher and get oriented. It's a little different here because Kindergarten is in what they call a "primary" school. They have a preschool and kindergarten together from all the area schools. I was a little disapointed at this because I finally was thinking I would have two kids at the same school. In fact in Utah both kids would have been riding the bus to and from school and instead I get to drive two kids to two different schools. Oh well it's just one year of this right? You can do anything for a year.
Ethan's teacher is Mrs. O'Leary and Anna's is Mrs. Fields. I will post pics soon of the school's themselves because they are obviously very old and really traditional looking. I just love, love the look of all the old home and buildings. It's so great that they choose to restore around her instead of knock down and rebuild. Driving down the street is dangerous because I'm so busy looking from left to right admiring all the neat homes. Another thing I love here is all the color in the homes. I hate that in the new construction these days it seems at least in Utah that everything is very neutral, dark and dare I say boring!
